Tidal is a subscription-based music streaming service that combines lossless audio and high definition music videos with curated editorial. The service has over 30 million tracks and 75,000 music videos. Tidal offers two digital music streaming services: Tidal Premium (lossy quality) and Tidal HiFi (lossless CD quality – FLAC-based 16-Bit/44.1 kHz).
Tidal was launched in 2014 by Norwegian/Swedish public company Aspiro. It has distribution agreements with all of the three major labels, in addition to many indies. In the first quarter of 2015, the parent company Aspiro was acquired by Project Panther Ltd., which is owned by Shawn “Jay Z” Carter.
Fast forward to September 2015, Jay Z’s baby becomes platinum by reaching 1,000,000 people. To celebrate, TIDAL will throw a special concert titled TIDAL X: 1020 featuring a TON of hot artists.
Beyoncé, Jay Z, Prince, Lil Wayne, T.I., Rick Ross, Usher and Nicki Minaj lead the pack as the lineup scheduled to play the Tidal X: 1020 charity concert on October 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Other acts include Damien Marley, Fabulous, Thomas Rhett, Indochina, DJ Cipha Sounds and DJ Reflex. The show will also feature Tidal Rising acts Benjamin Booker, Hit-Boy, Bas, Jidenna, Justine Skye and Raury.
